🔬 Tech Tree

📋 Research Order Overview (Standard Start)

For Crashlanded starts. Priority is already sorted for you — just follow the order:

TechOrderWhy Research It First
Batteries1stWithout batteries, power cuts out at night. Solar panels are useless during the day if you can't store the energy.
Solar Panels2ndReliable self-generated power. Frees you from depending on steam geyser locations.
Air Conditioning3rdFreezer = food storage. No freezer means your food won't last the first winter.
Stonecutting4thWooden buildings burn down in one spark. Stone walls are a permanent home.
Microelectronics5thUnlocks the advanced research bench and comms console — call traders and request reinforcements.
Precision Machining6thYou can craft components. Repair and build without waiting for a passing trade caravan.
Advanced Research7thUnlocks bionics and shipbuilding tech — you're officially in the late game.
Geothermal Power8th24/7 stable 3600W. One geothermal generator powers most of your base.
💡 Core Logic: Secure power first → then food → upgrade materials → finally rush high tech. Don't skip steps in this chain or you'll have to redo everything.

🔄 Research Differences by Start Type

Each start type has a completely different rhythm. Don't force the Crashlanded roadmap onto a Tribal run:

Start TypeRecommended Research StrategyKey Difference
Crashlanded Power → Freezer → Stonecutting → Microelectronics → Precision Machining Three colonists with basic tech. Follow the standard route safely.
Tribal Complex Clothing → Complex Furniture → Psychoid Brewing → Rush Electricity Research is painfully slow. Don't chase electricity early. Get cold-weather clothing and furniture for survival first. Brew psychoid tea (beer substitute) for mood. Only then touch electricity.
Rich Explorer Microelectronics → Advanced Research → Precision Machining Comes with some tech and resources already unlocked. Skip the basics and rush late-game for rapid equipment advantage.

🎯 Key Tech Milestones

These techs are real game-changers. Researching them is a qualitative leap forward:

TechUnlocksWhy It Matters
Air ConditioningFreezer constructionFood preservation goes from days to years. No freezer? Enjoy eating rats in winter.
StonecuttingStone block craftingStone walls are fireproof. No more losing your base to a single lightning strike.
MicroelectronicsComms console + Advanced research benchThe comms console can call traders and ally reinforcements — basically a lifeline.
Precision MachiningComponent craftingMake your own components. No more begging trade caravans. Freedom in repairs and construction.
Geothermal PowerGeothermal generator24/7 stable 3600W. Never depend on wind or solar again.
HydroponicsIndoor farmingMass-produce food in ice sheets and deserts. Full self-sufficiency.
BionicsBionic part craftingReplace pawn body parts. Movement speed and combat power jump dramatically.
FabricationAdvanced component craftingBuild high-end gear = gear freedom. No more relying on loot drops and traders.
StarshipShip constructionBuilding the ship = winning condition. This is the ultimate goal.

Research Speed Tips

Same playtime, double the research output — it all comes down to the details:

  • Place the research bench on sterile tile. A clean environment boosts research speed; dirt and mess slow it down.
  • Connect a Multi-analyzer to the research bench for +10% research speed. Well worth building one.
  • Crucial Assign a dedicated researcher. Don't make them split time with construction or mining — focus is the real speed boost.
  • Pawns with Intellectual ≥ 8 research significantly faster. Anyone below 5 shouldn't touch a research bench — it's a waste of time.
  • If researching at night, place a lamp by the bench. Darkness gives -20% research speed — don't skip a simple lamp.
  • Late-game, build multiple research benches with multiple researchers for parallel progress — tech tree takes off.
  • Use Research Accelerator packets when you have them. No point saving them forever.
  • Before researching critical techs, reassign your highest-Intellectual pawn to full-time research for maximum efficiency.
